Gold Coast Peering

Introduction

This document is to advocate the construction of a non commercial peering point on the Gold Coast, similar to those found in many Australian cities. The peering point is to improve the quality of Internet access on the Gold Coast by keeping Gold Coast traffic on the Gold Coast.

The document is written with ISPs in mind but I hope is also relevant to other organisations that provide Internet access, specifically Universities. I have tried to include some basic information (and a glossary) so that the page is accesible to all interested parties.

• What is a peering point?. This document briefly explains the idea behind peering and peering points.
• Why would anyone want to peer?. This document lists some of the reasons peering points are good - for ISPs and Internet users as a whole.
• Why would a university want to peer?. This short document explains the advantages peering gives that are unique to universities.
• What's needed and what does it cost?. This document details what equipment is needed for a peering point, what needs to be done and how much it all costs.
• Where can I get more information?. If you want more information or are just interested you can have a look at some of these sites, many belonging to peering points around Australia.
